That audience is unusually alert to marketing. Anything that reads as a conventional conference funnel is actively counterproductive, and the community around it will notice immediately.
At the same time it is still an event. People need to know where to be, when, and how to take part.
We leaned into the register the community already speaks in: heavy type, near-black surfaces, and motion that suggests signal rather than decorating the page.
Practical information sits underneath the atmosphere rather than behind it. Obscurity is a tone, not an excuse for hiding the door time or the ticket link.
The identity had to work across an ecosystem of allied projects and community logos, so the mark is built to sit next to other people's brands without fighting them.
The result reads as an artefact of the community rather than an advert aimed at it, which is the only way this kind of brand earns attention.
It also scales: each edition can take the same structure without the identity being rebuilt.
